The formative years...

Tom Cruise is the most successful actor in Hollywood. His career had started off in his teenage years playing in movies, ads and television roles this has attracted many fans. His films have grossed in the hundreds of millions of dollars and fans in the millions. Risky Business attracted many fans mostly young women. In this movie he plays a teenager who is about to enter college. Women liked him because in one specific scene he dances around in his underwear and shades. Tom starred as Maverick in Top Gun after this movie various fans could relate to his character. Then he played similar roles to Maverick in other films that did very well. He earned respect in The Color Of Money because the role was a deeper character to represent. Tom's best performance was in Rain Man as well as in Born On The Fourth Of July. The Firm earned success and as well as Interview With The Vampire. It was one of his more dramatic roles that totaled over $20 million dollars. This movie Anne Rice did not approve of. But after seeing it, it won her satisfaction that she put out a full page advertisement in Variety praising his performance. He had two small roles at the beginning of his career. His first film in Endless Love and later on in The Outsiders where he was not recognized at all.

When he was a child he had to move a dozen times from school to school with his divorced mother and his sisters. They had rough times but that is what brought them closer together. He had to take care of them because he was the only man around the house. What choice did he have? In his Glen Ridge High School in Syracuse New York he almost starred in a theatre production of Guys and Dolls but dropped out to pursue his acting career. Dyslexia was a major problem for him in his younger years but later in his life he found a way to study to overcome his problem. This helped him to learn things quicker than from before. He was married to Mimi Rogers for a while but that ended in divorce. He moved on with his life and is now having a wonderful time with wife Nicole Kidman (which he married after the movie Days of Thunder in 1990) and has two adopted children Isabella Jane and Connor Anthony. Now Tom & Nic are divorced, ending in February.

He also started producing movies. His movie Mission Impossible grossed $30 million in which he starred and produced. It was the most successful movie to date. His
total films which he starred in grossed nearly $3 billion dollars. The help of a Paula Wagner an agent at the Creative Artists Agency had guided his career to fame.
What contributed to the fact that he became famous or popular was that he was his own person, demanded respect on the set of his movies and was wild and adventurous when he was a kid. He still is like that today. The religion of Scientology deals with this being your own person. Believing in this religion gave Tom Cruise the strength to go on. He was also famous because of movies like Risky Business and Top Gun. After the movie Taps he was an unpleasant person to be around. He learned from his mistakes after the movie. He worked a lot to get where he is now in Hollywood.

Tom Cruise is The Great Samaritan of LA. Recently in August he has called for help on his vacation with his wife and children for five passengers. Rescuers helped passengers to safety from a burning yacht off the isle of Capri. He has also helped children being crushed at his London's premiere of Mission Impossible. When a Los Angeles pedestrian was crossing the road she was struck by a hit and run driver. He helped her by calling an ambulance. Tom even paid her emergency room bill a total of $7,000 dollars. Jerry Maguire his number one box-office movie was a smash hit and he almost won for an Academy Award.

In 1983 he has received his first Golden Globe Award nomination for Risky Business. In 1989 he was nominated for an Academy Award for Born On The Fourth Of July. In 1990 he received the People's Choice Award for Favorite Motion Picture Actor. In 1991 he was a recipient of the coveted American Cinema Award for Distinguished Achievement in Film. In 1993 he received a Golden Globe nomination for portrayal of Lieutenant J.G. Daniel Kaffe in A Few Good Men, NATO / ShoWest Meritorious Achievement Award and "Actor of the Decade" Award at the Chicago International Film Festival. In 1994 he was honored as the Hasty Pudding Man of the Year at Harvard University and received a second People's Choice Award for Favorite Motion Picture Actor. In 1996 he currently was honored with the prestigious American Cinematheque Award.

Magnolia was a good movie he did. Where he played such a BASTARD in the role. He got nominated for Best Supporting Actor, but didn't win! Mission Impossible II or M:I-2 was the summer blockbuster movie and it made a lot of money. In Vanilla Sky he plays w/ his costar and girlfriend Penelope Cruz. It is a sweet and dramatic role that he played in. Minority Report is an action thriller that takes you on a ride set in the future. There is a sweet side to him in the movie. Next movies will be: Mission Impossible 3, The Last Samurai, The Light at the End of the Chunnel, and producing The War of the Worlds and Narc.
