Movie Review: Interview With The Vampire

If anyone likes horror or even comedy this movie is recommended for viewers of that type of genre. Interview With The Vampire is the movie and people can rent it
on video. This story would scare anyone out of their pants. The story begins with Louis, an average man telling his life story to a reporter. He had lost his wife and child and was very depressed, the year was in 1791. This movie has its depressing parts as well as its funny ones. Acting in it is Tom Cruise as Lestat. Lestat is a very calm and funny creature of the night, a vampire of course. He has his funny moments, like when he dances with a corpse. At other times he takes pleasure in his killing his victims, for the mere blood just to survive in the world. Sometimes he is cruel, but at other times he has his weaknesses, for example he does not like being left alone and seeks Louis for his companion. Anne Rice did not want to cast Cruise for this role, but then put out an ad in Variety praising his performance. On the other hand, Louis is the exact opposite of what Lestat is. Louis is a quiet and reserved individual, he suffers so much in this movie that he thinks the life that he is living is hell. We see that vampires have souls from his emotional acting ability. But, he has to learn how to be a vampire and deal with it. He feels empty inside, so he decides to run away from this world. Unfortunately, he sees a young girl and feels the need for her peace, but she is later turned into a vampire by Lestat instead of her dying. When Claudia, the child Lestat named her is transformed and the visual effect is that she will be given doll like curls as a vampire child. Claudia is played by Kirsten Durst, as she does an amazing job portraying her. "A little child she was, but a fierce killer", Pitt quotes as Louis. She uses her innocence in the movie to get blood and dolls. One day she would like to grow up and be a lady, but she must withstand in being a little girl that causes her emotional pain. There is Armand who owns the Theater Des Vampires, he is portrayed by Antonio Banderas. He is very mysterious and wise in this role. But, he has no heart according to Louis who comes to him for answers about how the vampires were started by. Then, there is Daniel the reporter played by Christian Slater, whom first does not believe that there are vampires out there.
In this movie there are many visual effects, for example the movie has many scenes that have Lestat, Louis, or Claudia killing an innocent and taking their blood. If a person is queasy then do not see this movie. This movie is graphic, which takes place in San Franscico, New Orleans, and Paris. The Theater Des Vampires in quite graphic with a basement that has a long row of stairs and great walls. Makeup and costumes are extrodinary, for example Lestat and his performance of him looking half dead as a ghost because of all the blood sucked out of him. The extravagant costumes of Claudia and the others of the 18th century. As the years pass by the clothes become more sophisticated and fancier each century. The lighting gives the movie suspense, as pitch dark streets and never going into the sun makes these vampires very mysterious. Music also gives the movie suspense as classical and rock music grace the screen at the end seeing Lestat and Daniel together. The music goes up when something really suspenseful happens. Other times the music is really sad, when Louis losses his love. The camera work gives the movie meaning with close up views when seeing the vampires' faces, as to when they are walking. The camera moves up when he sees that Lestat is flying with Louis. When something scary happens the camera jerks around more a more, tension viewed movie. Camera positions anyone can see in this movie are fast, slow, narrow, down coming up and looking down. The sound is ear catching to hear the music get quiet then louder to make people jump from their seats. Who is at the door? Suddenly, Lestat appears to the sound of a suspenseful reaction. There are twists and turns to this movie, so be warned now… By the way the book and the movie are not the same, there are many differences.
